Abu Dhabi Unites with MSD to Enhance Healthcare and Expand Patient Access in the Region
Abu Dhabi Partners with MSD for Healthcare Excellence
In a groundbreaking announcement, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi has forged a partnership with MSD (Merck & Co., Inc.) aimed at enhancing operational excellence within the healthcare sector. This collaboration seeks not only to reinforce the resilience of healthcare supply chains but also to expand patient access to innovative treatments across the region.
The initiative focuses on the feasibility of establishing a logistics hub within Abu Dhabi's HELM facility, which stands for Health, Endurance, Longevity, and Medicine. Once operational, this hub will serve as a regional center for distributing a variety of pharmaceutical products, thereby fulfilling critical needs in multiple markets.
His Excellency Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health, emphasized the importance of this partnership. She stated, "Scientific advancements are progressing at an unprecedented pace, but their impact on improving lives relies heavily on how quickly and securely these innovations reach patients in need." The establishment of an integrated model in Abu Dhabi, dedicated to intelligent life sciences, combines cutting-edge research, population genomics, resilient infrastructures, and world-class distribution circuits within a unique and interconnected ecosystem.
The decision of MSD to set up its regional logistics hub in Abu Dhabi is a testament to the emirate's dynamic environment and its reputation as a trusted partner for global health leaders. This initiative not only facilitates easier access to essential treatments for patients in the region but also solidifies Abu Dhabi's commitment to fostering health innovation on a global scale.
Furthermore, this partnership aligns with MSD’s ambition to strengthen healthcare systems throughout the region. Ashraf Mallak, General Manager of MSD for the Gulf countries, Libya, and Egypt, remarked, "This planned collaboration reflects our shared ambition to enhance health systems regionally. By combining MSD's global expertise with Abu Dhabi's advanced ecosystem, we can improve resilience and expedite patient access to innovations."
Abu Dhabi unveiled this partnership during its participation in the BIO International Convention 2026, showcasing its intelligent life sciences ecosystem. This ecosystem highlights various partnerships focused on genomics, gene editing, AI-based health innovations, advanced therapies, and treatments for rare diseases.
In summary, this partnership not only paves the way for improved healthcare access but also reinforces the strategic objectives of both Abu Dhabi and MSD, culminating in a more robust health infrastructure that promises better patient outcomes across the region.
