Collaboration to Modernize Shipbuilding in Québec
Chantier Davie Canada Inc. has launched a significant collaboration with
Construction Dinamo Inc., a prominent construction company in Québec. This strategic alliance is pivotal for the revitalization of Davie's shipbuilding facility, located in
Lévis, as the company undertakes an ambitious plan to modernize the infrastructure and enhance its capacity to deliver advanced naval vessels.
This partnership aligns sharply with Davie's revised construction strategy, aimed at fulfilling the requirements of Canada's
National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). The freshly forged agreement includes various construction and supervisory services essential for major upgrades to the shipyard, which will support Davie’s ongoing realization of the
Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE Pact) opportunity.
James Davies, the President and CEO of Davie, emphasized the importance of this partnership, highlighting that Dinamo's construction expertise is crucial for achieving Davie's vision of modern shipbuilding in both Québec and Canada. The redevelopment blueprint involves erecting six state-of-the-art buildings, modernizing older structures, enhancing waterfront capabilities, and integrating advanced technologies into the construction processes. Dinamo is set to oversee several vital construction elements of this modernization initiative, promising speedy and efficient upgrades to the new naval fleet that Canada seeks to establish.
Jean-Yves Morisette, President and Director General of Dinamo, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are honored to partner with Davie in this groundbreaking initiative. Our experience and shared dedication to excellence will ensure the success of Davie's ambitious modernization program.”
The collaboration signifies a sustained commitment to investing in Québec's construction expertise, fostering partnerships that not only enhance Davie's capabilities but also strengthen Canada’s sovereign shipbuilding prowess. Furthermore, with strategic backing from the
Québec government and international alliances, this initiative positions Davie as a leader in the construction of vessels capable of operating in ice-infested waters.
Founded in 1825,
Davie stands as one of Canada’s foremost designers and builders of specialized ships, including
icebreakers,
ferries, and
warships. The company is a significant player in the
Government of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, which focuses on developing Canada’s most technologically sophisticated ships. This includes an $8.5 billion contract for constructing heavy icebreakers and hybrid ferries. In a notable expansion, Davie acquired
Helsinki Shipyard in late 2023, positioning itself as a world leader in icebreaker design and construction.
With such transformative projects in motion, the partnership between Davie and Dinamo represents a critical step forward for Québec’s shipbuilding industry, promising to deliver not only advanced technological capabilities but also substantial economic growth in the region.
