Iridium Communications Reports First Quarter 2025 Results

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IRDM), a prominent provider of global voice and data satellite communications, declared its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, exhibiting remarkable growth in both net income and revenue. Operational EBITDA saw an increase of 6%, reaching $122.1 million compared to $115.0 million from the previous year.

Total revenue for the quarter was marked at $214.9 million, comprising $154.3 million from service revenue and $60.6 million from equipment sales and engineering support projects. Furthermore, service revenue, which is predominantly generated from a growing subscriber base, witnessed a 4% increase year-over-year, contributing to 72% of the total revenue for the quarter.

Growing Subscriber Base

Iridium experienced an uptick in its subscriber numbers, ending the quarter with a total of 2,443,000 billable subscribers, an increase from 2,333,000 reported in the previous year and a slight decrease from 2,460,000 at the end of December 2024. This growth of 5% year-over-year is largely attributed to the rise in commercial IoT (Internet of Things) applications which have become crucial to Iridium's customer base. Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium, noted that demand for the company's mission-critical applications continues to drive revenue growth, supporting ongoing share buyback initiatives.

Insights into Commercial Services

The commercial service revenue reached $127.5 million, which is a 4% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, commercial voice and data services generated $55.9 million, reflecting a stable growth, with IoT data services recording a sharper increase of 11%, reaching $43.8 million.
