Triumvirate Environmental Enhances Arizona Facility for Advanced Hazardous Waste Management

Triumvirate Environmental's Facility Expansion in Arizona

Triumvirate Environmental is making significant strides in waste management solutions with the expansion of its facility located in Casa Grande, Arizona. This development is essential to meet the increasing demand for comprehensive and efficient hazardous waste disposal services across the Western United States.

Facility Overview

Situated on a sprawling 25-acre industrial site, this facility is just an hour south of Phoenix. Currently operational as a non-hazardous waste processing site, the facility is upgrading to include a new RCRA Part B hazardous waste facility. This upgrade is set to position Casa Grande as a leading hub for treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) of hazardous materials in the region, specifically serving areas west of the Mississippi River.

Innovative Waste Management Solutions

The enhancements to Triumvirate's Arizona site are comprehensive. Encompassing approximately 60,000 square feet of newly designated processing space, the facility will feature several state-of-the-art capabilities:

  • - Fuel Blending Infrastructure: Equipped with eight high-capacity tanks of 20,000 gallons each to facilitate efficient waste fuel blending to optimize energy recovery.
  • - Advanced Wastewater Treatment: Comprising four treatment tanks capable of holding 18,000 to 20,000 gallons, focusing on pH neutralization and organic removal via steam stripping prior to evaporation.
  • - Stabilization Tanks for Sludges: Two tanks designed for managing wastewater sludges and other qualifying waste like RCRA metals.
  • - Segregated Depack Bays: Five bays dedicated to processing hazardous materials such as acids, bases, and organic waste, ensuring stringent safety measures throughout the process.
  • - Rail Infrastructure: An onsite spur for railcars, facilitating efficient inbound and outbound waste shipping.
  • - Comprehensive Waste Acceptance: The facility accepts all RCRA waste code types, enabling a diverse range of waste processing capabilities.
  • - Environmental Safety Standards: All hazardous waste areas are designed with poly liners beneath epoxy-coated concrete, exceeding current environmental protection regulations.

Expecting to manage various waste types, from lab-scale materials to bulk industrial volumes, this facility is set to service industries including life sciences, manufacturing, higher education, and technology. Key waste types eligible for processing include flammable liquids, sludges, metal-bearing wastes, aerosols, lab packs, and various consumer and industrial chemicals.

Addressing Regional Waste Disposal Challenges

Vaughan Harry, Vice President of Western Region Operations at Triumvirate, emphasizes the significance of this facility in mitigating the limited hazardous waste disposal options available in the West. He states, “Facilities like this are crucial to tackle the disposal capacity challenges across the western U.S. By integrating multiple treatment technologies and logistic capabilities, we provide a more efficient, scalable, and sustainable approach to waste management.”

Moreover, the Casa Grande facility is strategically designed to simplify transportation logistics. By enabling local consolidation of waste streams and leveraging rail infrastructure, Triumvirate anticipates reducing both transportation expenses and long-distance shipment requirements while ensuring full compliance with safety regulations.

Safety and Compliance First

Triumvirate has incorporated modern design specifications, prioritizing safety with advanced fire protection and monitoring systems, alongside compatibility-based storage solutions. This focus on contemporary standards distinguishes the Casa Grande facility from many existing operations that have not yet modernized.

Future Prospects

The ongoing expansion underscores a pivotal investment in infrastructure within a historically underserved area regarding waste management. As Triumvirate enhances its capabilities to deliver fully integrated end-to-end solutions, the need for efficient waste management will continue to grow alongside consumer demand for sustainability.

In partnership with esteemed entities like GSS, DXU Architects, and Avid Engineering, Triumvirate Environmental expresses its commitment to bringing this innovative facility to fruition.
