On a bright and breezy Sunday morning, over 26,000 enthusiastic runners gathered in Grant Park to participate in the 45th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle. This year’s event not only marked the onset of the spring running season in Chicago but also featured notable records that highlighted the competitive spirit of the participants.

Unprecedented Achievements


Among the standout performances, Emma Grace Hurley stole the spotlight by breaking a long-standing record. With a remarkable time of 24:29, she eclipsed Deena Kastor's 21-year-old American women’s 8K record. Following closely was Karissa Schwizer, who claimed second place with a commendable 24:56, standing as the third-fastest women's finish time in the event's history.

In the men’s category, Mohammed Ahmed of the Swoosh TC triumphed, finishing the race in 22:59. His victory was marked by fierce competition, with several runners racing closely together until the final stages. Chandler Gibbens and JP Flavin took second and third places with times of 23:04 and 23:09 respectively.

The day witnessed its fair share of thrilling moments, especially in the mixed-division and wheelchair categories. Melanie Hamilt dominated the non-binary division with an impressive finish of 29:07. Hannah Babalola and Ethan Burkhart emerged victorious in the wheelchair competition, showcasing the inclusive essence of this community event.

A Celebration of Community


This year’s Shamrock Shuffle also featured the 16th annual Deloitte Elite Club Competition, where 70 elite USATF-member club teams from across the United States competed for a substantial prize purse totaling $30,000. The men's title was claimed by Hansons-Brooks ODP, who harnessed the strength of their top runners to secure a podium finish with a formidable total time of 13:42. The women's competition echoed similar success, with Hansons-Brooks Original Distance Project emerging as the leading team.

Carey Pinkowski, the Executive Race Director, expressed the exuberance of the event, saying, "Chicago extended its reputation as the city of records today at the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle. From inspiring performances in the Deloitte Elite Club Competition to thousands of participants celebrating the start of spring racing in Chicago, it was the perfect way to kick off the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Distance Series."

Following the race, participants and onlookers enjoyed a vibrant Post-Race Party held in Grant Park, complete with live music that created a festive atmosphere.
