SANY Launches Groundbreaking Hydrogen Refueling Project in Australia for Global Green Energy Progress

SANY's Hydrogen Refueling Project in Australia

In April 2024, SANY Group, a leader in construction machinery and green energy solutions, formed a strategic partnership with a customer in Australia. This milestone marks SANY's initial foray into the international market, showcasing the company’s innovative energy solutions after developing the largest integrated production and hydrogen refueling station in China. On May 20, 2025, SANY successfully delivered a custom-built hydrogen production and refueling system designed to meet the demands of the Australian market.

Introduction to SANY's Hydrogen Technology

The delivered system has a capacity of 200 Nm³/h, utilizing cutting-edge flexible electrolysis hydrogen production technology along with a sophisticated control system to ensure operational efficiency and stability. This integrated refueling station is equipped with advanced features such as dual-stage supercharging and hydrogen storage capacities of 50 MPa and 90 MPa, allowing for simultaneous hydrogen refueling for different types of vehicles. Whether for commercial transport or everyday passenger use, this facility is fully equipped to provide quick and safe refueling options.

Adhering to High Safety Standards

To facilitate its entry into the Australian market seamlessly, the project has adhered to rigorous safety standards and certification processes. The system has received full certification from both Bureau Veritas (BV) and TÜV SÜD, ensuring it meets high safety and performance benchmarks. Three key certifications highlight this commitment:

  • - AS 3000 Electrical Safety Certification: Guarantees compliance with top Australian safety regulations.
  • - ASME/AS1200 Vision: Confirms dual certification for pressure vessels under U.S. and Australian standards through the ASME U3 stamp, with a fatigue life exceeding 20,000 cycles.
  • - SAE J2601 Hydrogen Refueling Protocol Testing: This protocol ensures that refueling methods for 70 MPa passenger vehicles can be completed within three minutes, adhering to international refueling standards.

Rigorous Development Process

SANY's forward-thinking development strategy is bolstered by extensive risk evaluations of its hydrogen production and refueling systems. The company has applied multiple analytical techniques, including:
  • - Hazard Identification
  • - Hazard and Operability Study
  • - Safety Integrity Level and Layer of Protection Analysis

These methodologies allow for the proactive identification of potential risks and the establishment of robust safety measures throughout the operational lifecycle of the project.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

SANY’s venture into hydrogen refueling in Australia signifies a pivotal step towards global green energy expansion. The company is committed to advancing clean energy technologies while focusing on wind, solar, hydrogen, energy storage, and microgrid systems. Xiang Wenbo, Chairman of SANY Heavy Industry, emphasizes that the company is eager to lead the transition toward decarbonization and contribute positively to the green energy landscape. This venture not only represents a technological achievement but a significant commitment to environmental sustainability on a global scale.

SANY’s partnership with Australia heralds a new era in energy solutions, underscoring the collective effort toward reducing carbon footprints and creating a greener future. The innovative systems deployed in this project exemplify how cutting-edge technology can align with ecological responsibility, setting a benchmark for similar endeavors worldwide.

By facilitating efficient hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure, SANY’s project stands as a testament to international cooperation in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.
