The Carolinas AGC (CAGC) recently hosted an impressive ceremony to honor the 2026 class of Hall of Fame and Hall of Fame Legacy winners at the CAGC Construction Summit Expo. This annual event, which took place in July, recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the construction industry in the Carolinas, as well as to the communities they serve.

This year, three exceptional individuals were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements and contributions. These inductees exemplify the values of skill, integrity, and responsibility that CAGC and the Associated General Contractors proudly stand for. Hall of Fame Inductee: Ken Atkinson

Ken Atkinson’s lengthy and influential career in construction began at the South Carolina Highway Department after earning an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Sumter Technical College in 1969. He transitioned to the private sector and quickly ascended through the ranks of APAC, securing leadership roles that showcased his exceptional abilities. By 1994, he was serving as Vice President of the South Carolina Division.

Atkinson's impactful contributions didn't end with his retirement from APAC in 2006. He joined Palmetto Corp, where he accelerated growth and innovation in various projects until December 2022. Beyond his executive roles, Ken has devoted over two decades to the Carolinas AGC/SCDOT Joint Committee, and has also played a vital role in the SC Asphalt Pavement Association for 25 years. Even in retirement, Atkinson remains dedicated to the industry through his consultancy, offering expertise in specialized areas such as energy and fuel tax recovery and telecommunications expense recovery.

Hall of Fame Inductee: Jonathan Bivens

Jonathan Bivens holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee and is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina. He began his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation before joining S. T. Wooten Corporation in 1987. For the next four decades, Jonathan has excelled in various leadership positions, currently serving as the Vice President in charge of the Engineering and Design-Build Group.

Bivens has been instrumental in managing several key projects across eastern and central North Carolina, such as I-85, I-40, and I-95. One highlight of his illustrious career includes being the Design Build Manager on the Ruin Creek Parkway project, which marked a significant milestone as the first conventional project completed using the Design Build delivery method for the NCDOT.

A dedicated industry professional, Jonathan has generously shared his time and expertise with numerous committees such as the NCDOT/CAGC Roadway Subcommittee and NC Legislative Committee, demonstrating his commitment to the advancement of the construction field.

Hall of Fame Legacy Inductee: Seth T. Wooten, Jr.

Seth T. Wooten, Jr., the son of the founder of S.T. Wooten Corporation, embodies the spirit of legacy and leadership in the construction industry. Following in his father's footsteps, Seth began his career operating grading and earth-moving equipment, gaining comprehensive knowledge from the ground up. His exceptional leadership trajectory includes roles from foreman to Executive Vice President, ultimately becoming the Chief Executive Officer.

Under his guidance, S.T. Wooten Corporation flourished, expanding from a modest workforce to more than 1,000 employees, diversifying its services, and earning accolades for its commitment to quality. Seth's vision fostered a culture of innovation and safety, emphasizing the importance of employee training and benefits, making him a revered figure within the industry.
