Remix Point and Blue Sky Solar Collaborate on Solar Energy Project Expansion

Remix Point, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the code 3825, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Blue Sky Solar Inc., aimed at innovating low-voltage solar power plant operations. Headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Remix Point is led by CEO Yoshihiko Takahashi. Meanwhile, Blue Sky Solar, which focuses on the comprehensive development, operation, and maintenance (O&M) of solar power plants, is overseen by its representative, Yasuhiro Fujimiya.

This collaboration comes at a crucial juncture as both firms transition from the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system to the Feed-in Premium (FIP) system. The plan includes equipping their solar power plants with energy storage systems, which will facilitate the optimization of the entire system involving generation, storage, and sale of power. The primary goal is not only to enhance revenue but also to establish Remix Point as a low-pressure aggregator in the renewable energy sector.

The initial focus is on two solar power facilities, each containing ten plots located in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto, and Shibushi City, Kagoshima. However, the partnership intends to expand collaboration gradually beyond these two sites in the future.

The low-voltage power generation sector represents a burgeoning opportunity, making up a significant 90% of all introduced solar power generation facilities. However, challenges such as efficiency and procedural burdens have made profitability difficult, resulting in high entry barriers. Remix Point aims to transform this landscape by registering as a specified wholesale supplier by June 30, 2025, and entering the aggregator business. Through the acquisition of power stations and optimization of operations, Remix Point plans to expand its FIP business in the mid-term.

On the other hand, Blue Sky Solar brings extensive knowledge and experience in the proper operation and management of solar power plants, covering every aspect from development to maintenance. This partnership aims to harness Remix Point's expertise in energy storage systems and blend it with Blue Sky Solar’s O&M capabilities, ultimately targeting the optimization of low-voltage solar power plant operations and increasing profitability.

Partnership Highlights

In this venture, Remix Point will design, propose, and implement optimal energy storage solutions, while its subsidiary, Seal Engineering, will focus on optimizing the operation of both the solar power stations and the energy storage systems. Blue Sky Solar will provide its own low-voltage solar power facilities and evaluate the introduction of Remix Point’s energy storage systems and operation management systems required under the FIP scheme.

Specifics on the Selected Sites

Kikuchi Power Plant (Owned by Remix Point)

  • - Location: Kikuchi City, Kumamoto
  • - Power Generation Output: Approximately 500 kW (49.5 kW per plot)
  • - Estimated Annual Power Generation: Around 594,000 kWh (for 10 plots)
  • - Additional Equipment: Energy storage system with a rated capacity of about 2,090 kWh (approximately 209 kWh per plot)
  • - Transition Schedule: Installation work for the energy storage system is expected to start in spring 2026, with paperwork for the FIP transition beginning in the fall of 2026 and completion by winter 2026.

Shibushi Power Plant (Owned by Blue Sky Solar)

  • - Location: Shibushi City, Kagoshima
  • - Power Generation Output: Approximately 500 kW (49.5 kW per plot)
  • - Estimated Annual Power Generation: Around 744,000 kWh (for 10 plots)
  • - Additional Equipment: Energy storage system with a rated capacity of about 2,610 kWh (approximately 261 kWh per plot)
  • - Transition Schedule: Similar to the Kikuchi plant, installation work is planned to commence in spring 2026, with the FIP transition paperwork starting in fall 2026 and completion by winter 2026.

Future Prospects

Going forward, Remix Point plans to consider the FIP transition for additional low-voltage solar power stations owned by Blue Sky Solar, aiming at entering the balancing market for supply and demand adjustments. By accumulating data and insights through this operation, Remix Point seeks to establish the business viability of low-voltage aggregators under the FIP scheme. This initiative not only represents a step forward in sustainable energy development but also embodies a commitment to advancing towards a greener future. With the partnership and planned initiatives, Remix Point and Blue Sky Solar are set to make significant contributions to the renewable energy landscape in Japan.
