ICANN's Nomination Committee Seeks Business Leaders

In an effort to enhance its leadership, the Nomination Committee (NomCom) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has announced an open call for applications to fill two key positions on its Board of Directors. The newly appointed members will begin their terms at the upcoming ICANN Annual Meeting in October 2026 and will serve until the next Annual Meeting in 2029.

The Significance of ICANN's Role

Ideal candidates should possess:

• - Integrity and Objectivity: Demonstrated ethical leadership and sound decision-making skills.
• - Executive Management Experience: Senior leadership roles either in for-profit or nonprofit organizations. Relevant expertise in governance, finance, strategy, or risk management is preferred.
• - Non-Profit Board Experience: Familiarity with fiduciary responsibilities and the ability to foster consensus in mission-driven organizations.
• - Understanding of ICANN's Mission: A solid grasp of Internet infrastructure and ICANN’s role within the global Internet ecosystem.
• - Cultural Awareness: The ability to work across diverse groups and a commitment to contributing to a representative and diverse Board.

Although expertise in Internet technologies is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite, as the ICANN seeks individuals from various industries who can provide strategic oversight and apply best governance practices in a tech-focused policy environment.

Commitment and Expectations

Members of the Board of Directors are expected to dedicate approximately 20 hours a week to their responsibilities, including participating in up to six Board workshops and three public ICANN meetings annually. They will also engage in ongoing work within committees and other Board groups, alongside participating in global ICANN community activities across different time zones.
