British Airways Chooses RTX's GTF Engines for A320neo Fleet

At the Farnborough International Airshow, revered aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, part of RTX, announced a groundbreaking partnership with British Airways. This historic agreement involves the installation of GTF™ engines to power 33 firm orders and 30 options for Airbus A320neo aircraft. The collaboration not only highlights British Airways' commitment to enhancing its fleet but also signifies a pivotal moment for Pratt & Whitney in the commercial aviation sector.

The GTF engine has earned a reputation for its exceptional fuel efficiency, achieving 20% lower fuel consumption and a 75% reduction in noise footprint compared to previous engine generations. In a world increasingly concerned with sustainability, British Airways’ decision reflects a strategic move towards greener aviation, aligning closely with global trends prioritizing eco-friendly practices. Apart from just the engines, Pratt & Whitney will also be providing extensive maintenance services under a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive Services agreement. The maintenance package is designed to foster optimized fleet efficiency and reduce overall cost of ownership for British Airways, ensuring that the airline can maintain its leadership position in a competitive market.

Deliveries of these advanced engines are scheduled to commence in 2027. British Airways anticipates that the incorporation of GTF engines will significantly bolster its international fleet expansion goals, enhancing the travel experience for passengers while concurrently promoting fuel savings.

To date, over 2,800 aircraft powered by GTF engines are already in operation worldwide, supported by more than 90 customers, reinforcing the strong demand for this industry-leading technology. This technology is backed by a robust order backlog encompassing over 8,000 GTF engines, reflecting its proven performance.

Moreover, the upcoming GTF Advantage engine, set to debut later this year, is expected to offer unprecedented reliability with up to double the time on wing and marked improvements in fuel efficiency and range capabilities.
