Viennese Coffee Culture Comes Alive
The city of Vienna is set to host the highly anticipated 2026 Julius Meinl Barista Cup, bringing together coffee professionals from across the globe to showcase their skills. Each day, baristas around the world craft over five million cups of Julius Meinl coffee, significantly enhancing the coffee experience in various cafés, restaurants, and hotels. This competition is an exciting opportunity to highlight their craftsmanship and the diversity of their profession.
The Barista Cup will kick-off its series of national competitions from April to July 2026 in 17 countries, including Austria, Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, UAE, USA, Serbia, Germany, Slovenia, China, and Hungary. National winners will then gather for the grand finale in Vienna on September 4, 2026.
From Local Competitions to the Global Arena
Baristas serving Julius Meinl coffee in various establishments are invited to participate in this distinguished competition. Initially, selected candidates will compete at the national level against each other, showcasing their talents in three categories: Espresso, Cappuccino, and Signature Drink. The national champions will then vie for the title in the ultimate final in Vienna. Each winner in their category will have the chance to embark on an exclusive trip to a coffee origin country, offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in local coffee cultures and deepen their understanding of sustainable coffee cultivation.
Christina Meinl, a fifth-generation family member of the brand, emphasized the importance of these events: “The first Julius Meinl Barista Cup in 2024 was a remarkable moment to showcase the passion and skill of baristas. We are equally excited to continue this tradition in 2026, incorporating five more countries and providing baristas with an international stage.”
Focus on Skill and Creativity
During the competition, participants will utilize the Gloriette Gold blend, part of the double-certified organic and Fairtrade line dubbed 'The Originals.' This special blend has been developed with a nod to Vienna's coffee house culture and caters to professionals who prioritize sustainability and premium quality. Contestants will demonstrate their artisanal skills, creativity, and unique touch in preparing this blend, emphasizing modern coffee-making techniques.
