LIVE MY OWN LIFE: A Fashion Show for Empowerment
On August 9, 2026, a groundbreaking fashion show titled "LIVE MY OWN LIFE" will take place at the Bunkyo Civic Center in Tokyo, featuring 16 brave cancer survivors. This event is organized by TOKIMEKU JAPAN, which operates the care brand KISS MY LIFE, in collaboration with Cancer Network Japan, marking TOKIMEKU's 10th anniversary. The initiative aims to empower cancer fighters, showcasing their resilience and unique identities through fashion.
A Celebration of Life Through Fashion
The show will see participants comprising 16 cancer survivors—13 women and 3 men—who will walk the runway while being escorted by medical professionals. Rather than simply presenting medical products, KISS MY LIFE transforms items like medical hats and wigs into expressions of personal style, demonstrating that these essentials can be an integral part of individual identity. The event seeks to promote the message that facing cancer does not mean sacrificing one’s sense of self or style.
The Origin of KISS MY LIFE
Inspired by her own journey with young adult cancer, founder Ryouko Shiozaki established TOKIMEKU JAPAN after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33. The side effects of chemotherapy and surgical procedures motivated her to create care products that do more than serve a functional purpose—they should also reflect one's individuality. When approached to organize a fashion show for cancer patients, Ryouko witnessed firsthand how fashion can restore confidence, leading her to launch KISS MY LIFE with the empowering slogan, "More than a patient, be yourself."
Fashion as a Mechanism for Empowerment
“Fashion has the power to restore one's identity,” Ryouko asserts. Since its inception in 2016, KISS MY LIFE has aimed to marry functionality with fashionability, offering approximately 200 products including wigs, medical hats, bras for breast cancer survivors, senior footwear, and more. The goal is that despite the challenges posed by illness or age, everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy fashion and express themselves authentically every day.
What to Expect from the Show
The upcoming fashion show is not merely an exhibition but a profound message of hope. Participants, some wearing wigs or medical hats, others showcasing their experiences with breast cancer surgeries or using mobility aids like canes, will share their life stories on the runway. The show aims to convey a universal message: everyone, regardless of health status, deserves to shine and express their true selves.
Media inquiries post-show will be facilitated, allowing reporters to conduct interviews with participants and Ryouko, who can narrate their stories further.
Media Coverage and Access
The event is part of the Japan Cancer Forum 2026, and media representatives are encouraged to apply for coverage by emailing
[email protected] by Saturday, August 8, at 5 PM. The show promises to be a visual and emotional journey not to be missed, focusing on the intersection of health challenges and personal expression through fashion.
