Sungrow and Zelestra Launch Peru's Largest Solar PV Project to Boost Clean Energy

Sungrow and Zelestra Launch Peru's Largest Solar PV Project

## Overview of the Project
On November 20, 2025, Sungrow, a renowned leader in PV inverter and energy storage systems, announced a partnership with Zelestra to supply high-performance inverter solutions for the San Martín solar project. This groundbreaking project, boasting a capacity of 273 MWac, is recognized as Peru's largest photovoltaic (PV) installation to date. As a milestone in Peru's commitment to clean energy, the project has begun full commercial operations, marking a significant step towards the realization of the nation's energy decarbonization objectives.

Located in the arid desert of Arequipa, at an impressive altitude of 2,500 meters, the San Martín project overcomes challenging environmental factors such as extreme temperatures and low humidity. Sungrow's extensive experience in handling similar climatic conditions positions them as the ideal partner to deliver reliable and efficient technical solutions essential for the project's success.

Technical Excellence with Modular Inverters

Sungrow is set to provide its innovative 1+X Modular Inverter, a medium-voltage turnkey solution featuring numerous advantages, including scalability and high operational efficiency. The modular design allows for a minimum unit capacity of 1.1 MW, ensuring optimal performance under harsh environmental conditions. The project will also incorporate bifacial solar modules and single-axis trackers to maximize energy yield and deliver cleaner energy to the grid.

The swift collaboration and implementation made it possible to move from contract signing to commercial operation in just 16 months, allowing the energy generated to contribute to the national grid and enhance the return on investment for stakeholders.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

As the San Martín project ramps up its operations, it is projected to generate approximately 830 GWh of clean electricity each year. This output is equivalent to powering over 440,000 households while simultaneously reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 166,549 tons annually. Moreover, the construction phase of the project has created more than 900 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.

In line with the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines' (MINEM) ambitious plans, the country aims to bring online 14 additional solar projects totaling 2.5 GW by 2028. The successful inauguration of the San Martín initiative represents a major leap forward for Peru's renewable energy ambitions, as emphasized during its recent inauguration, attended by President Dina Boluarte.

A Strategic Partnership

José Luis García, CEO of Zelestra in Latin America, expressed the company’s faith in Sungrow's capabilities: "We see Sungrow not just as a vendor but as a strategic long-term partner. Their technical prowess and track record in the region bolster our confidence as we expand our renewable energy initiatives across Latin America."

Sungrow's Regional Director Gonzalo Feito also highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, "Zelestra prioritized regulatory compliance and technical excellence. With our deep-seated expertise and dependable product reliability across Latin America, we are proud to help bring this historical project to fruition and accelerate Peru's transition to clean energy."

This collaboration is an extension of the strong relationship developed between the two companies, having signed a previous agreement to supply 1 GWh of energy storage for an earlier hybrid project in Chile. Currently, Sungrow has over 1 GWh of contracted capacity in Peru, with a dedicated local team providing comprehensive support, including sales, engineering, and after-sales service.

A Commitment to Sustainable Futures

Sungrow, having over 28 years of experience in renewable energy technology, has installed a global total of 740 GW of power electronic converters. They have been recognized as one of the most bankable PV inverter and energy storage companies, according to BloombergNEF. Their commitment to advanced clean energy solutions not only shapes projects like San Martín but also plays a vital role in meeting the increasing energy demands of the Latin American region. As the journey to a sustainable future continues, Sungrow stands at the forefront of bridging technology with service, ensuring a brighter and greener tomorrow.
