The 18th Sweets Koshien: A Culinary Showdown for High School Chefs



The anticipation is building as the 18th Sweets Koshien, a prestigious competition that recognizes the top high school pastry chefs in Japan, gears up for its national qualifying rounds. Event Details


Starting on August 5, 2025, the qualifiers will take place at Tokyo Bell Epoque Culinary School, featuring East and West Japan blocks. Each block will consist of 12 teams that have successfully passed the document review process.

Contestants will engage in cooking tests that will be judged by esteemed chef judges. The stakes are high, as the top six teams from each block will earn a chance to compete in the national finals, scheduled for September 15, 2025.

This year, the competition is more accessible via digital platforms, with a highlight reel of the pre-lims set to be aired on the official Sweets Koshien YouTube channel. The organizers are committed to promoting the relentless passion and dreams of high school students as they aspire for the coveted title of the nation's best young pastry chef, also known as the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award.

The West Japan block will kick off on August 5, featuring teams from various prestigious schools such as Fukuchiyama Shukutoku High School (Kyoto) presenting their creation named 'Suzuran,' and many other innovative culinary teams from Osaka, Hyogo, and Fukuoka.

Meanwhile, the East Japan block on August 6 includes a wide range of talented schools like Kiyoshou Academy in Hokkaido and the Miyagi Prefectural Agricultural High School, each bringing unique flavors and concepts to their desserts.
