VIA Labs Unveils Advanced VL610/VL610D MST Hub for Enhanced USB-C Multi-Display Docking

Introduction

On May 26, 2026, during the Computex 2026 event held in Taipei, VIA Labs, Inc. (VLI) unveiled its latest innovation: the VL610 and VL610D MST Hub Controllers. These advanced models are designed to meet the rising needs for multi-display setups using USB-C technology. With a reputation for developing high-caliber USB4, DisplayPort, and SuperSpeed USB controllers, VLI is poised to set new standards in USB-C docking solutions.

Overview of VL610 and VL610D

The VL610 represents a significant advancement over its predecessor, the VL605, which previously supported only one HDMI 2.1 output. This new MST Hub offers outstanding capabilities by supporting up to three high-resolution displays simultaneously, fundamentally transforming the user experience, especially in multi-monitor environments.

The VL610 series comprises two specific models: the VL610, capable of handling three video outputs, and the VL610D, which accommodates two. This product differentiation allows manufacturers to choose the chipset that best aligns with their design requirements.

Technical Specifications

In technical terms, the VL610 is a highly integrated DP 2.1 HBR3 Multi-Stream Transport hub. This robust architecture allows users to utilize a single display at a staggering resolution of up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 240Hz. Alternatively, the hub can also support three displays running at 4K at 60Hz or QHD at 144Hz. Additionally, it enables the simultaneous transmission of audio and video streams with a maximum of six independent streams.

The VL610’s flexible design includes one fixed HDMI 2.1 FRL transmitter while also providing configurable ports that support both DP++ and HDMI connections. This flexibility ensures compatibility with a wide range of display devices.

Advanced Features

One of the standout features of the VL610 is its integration of an advanced DSC 1.2a decoder. This allows for efficient decompression of video signals which could either be routed through to HDMI or enable direct pass-through to compatible displays. The VL610 supports cross-platform Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), benefiting high-end gaming and professional applications by delivering smoother graphics.

Security is another focus with this new hub. The VL610 includes ECDSA-256 asymmetric authentication, ensuring safe firmware updates while guarding against potential malicious attacks. One unique feature is its Logo Bitmap display capability, which can show customized graphics and messaging during inactive periods or when errors occur. This is not only a functional advantage but also serves to enhance brand visibility.

Future Outlook

Wayne Chang, VLI's Director of Product Management, stated that the VL610 marks a pivotal milestone in their journey to revolutionize multi-display signal conversion technology. Transitioning from a single output to a triple-stream capability represents VLI's dedication to evolving with customer demands.

As the industry gravitates towards high-performance multi-display solutions, the VL610 is set to be a foundational component of next-generation high-end USB-C docking stations. This positions VIA Labs as a leader in the USB-C display interface market,
continuously pushing the boundaries of what users can achieve in terms of video performance and versatility.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the VL610 and VL610D MST Hub Controllers, VIA Labs is not just responding to current market needs; they're shaping the future of USB-C docking technology. Attendees at Computex 2026 can explore these cutting-edge products at Booth N0614, Hall 1, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, highlighting VIA Labs' commitment to innovation and performance in the tech space.
