A New World of Play: Sumikko Gurashi Play Studio
A new play area themed around the beloved Sumikko Gurashi characters is opening in Tokyo, specifically at Mark Is Katsushika Kanamachi. This thrilling attraction is set to launch on September 3, 2025, marking it as the first of its kind in the Kanto region. The project is a collaboration between San-X Co., the company behind Sumikko Gurashi, and the Bandai Namco group, which includes Bandai Namco Experience and Bandai Namco Amusement.
The main design of the play studio will feature the popular character “Tokage,” who is known for its shy nature. Children can look forward to sliding down a fun slide designed like “Tokage’s Mom” and playing in a ball pool inspired by Tokage’s forest home. The facility promises numerous interactive elements to delight all Sumikko Gurashi fans, ensuring a fantastic experience for children who love these cute characters.
The play area will be the largest among the existing locations. It includes a target area for ball shooting and a camping zone featuring a seesaw designed to resemble “Penguin?” sitting on watermelon. This space offers various activities for children to engage in fun, active play with their favorite Sumikko Gurashi characters.
Exclusive Opening Campaign
To celebrate this grand opening, a limited number of original art stickers will be given away to children upon entry. Each child can receive one sticker that showcases the play studio’s exclusive illustration of “Ebi Fry no Shippo,” which will also be dressed in a cute play studio apron.
Reservations are required for entry, and parents are encouraged to secure their spots through the official website.
Facility Layout and Features
The interior of the Sumikko Gurashi Play Studio will be divided into five themed areas: Town Area, Lake Area, Camping Area, Baby Area, and Goods Area. The play experience has also been enhanced with new imaginative activities, such as a pretend play pizza-making area that features a pizza oven designed after “Shirokuma.” Children can enjoy baking various Sumikko Gurashi-style pizzas as part of their creative play.
Additionally, a designated photo area will allow children to set up their plush toys for memorable pictures, capturing unique moments to share and cherish. The studio supports imaginative play and encourages children to explore their creativity.
