FamilyNet Japan Contributes to IT Education at Nagasaki Prefectural University

In a significant step towards nurturing future IT talent and enhancing community engagement, FamilyNet Japan (FNJ), located in Minato, Tokyo, made a generous donation of communication equipment to Nagasaki Prefectural University on July 17, 2025. This initiative aims to support the educational endeavors of the university, particularly for students specializing in network technology.

The donation ceremony featured FNJ CEO Toyo Hamanishi and Nagasaki Prefectural University President Kazunobu Asada, marking a collaboration that aims to bolster the information technology landscape in the region. The donated equipment consists of various communication devices previously used in FNJ’s internet service efforts but are now repurposed for educational use, underlining FNJ's commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The collaboration came about through a connection with Professor Masayuki Okada from the university's Department of Information Security, paving the way for students to engage in practical networking education using real-world equipment. This hands-on experience is expected to be invaluable for approximately 60-70 students enrolled in the department's network technology courses, providing them with the resources necessary to refine their technical skills, and equipping them for the demands of the industry.

The Department of Information Security at Nagasaki Prefectural University, established in 2016, holds the distinction of being the only program focused specifically on this critical field among four-year universities nationwide. With an annual intake of 80 students, the department actively engages in joint research with various companies and institutions, further igniting students' interest and knowledge in cyber security.

Professor Okada expressed his enthusiasm about the donation, highlighting the crucial role of real equipment in enhancing the learning experience. "These resources will undoubtedly enrich our students' understanding of network technology, laying a solid foundation for their careers in IT."

FamilyNet Japan aims to deepen its collaboration with Nagasaki Prefectural University through this initiative. Both organizations recognize the importance of fostering local IT talent and working together towards a sustainable society.

Conclusion

The donation of ICT equipment by FamilyNet Japan epitomizes its dedication to supporting education and developing skilled IT professionals. By giving students access to practical tools, FNJ is not only enriching their academic experience but also contributing positively to the future of the technology sector in the region.
