SKF Launches State-of-the-Art Super-Precision Bearing Facility in Italy
SKF Unveils New Super-Precision Bearing Center in Airasca, Italy
On September 19, 2025, SKF proudly inaugurated its latest facility in Airasca, Italy, dedicated entirely to the production of super-precision bearings. This state-of-the-art center not only signifies a major investment by SKF but also positions the company at the forefront of innovation in the bearing industry.
Integration for Innovation
The new Airasca facility integrates multiple functions, including manufacturing operations, research and development, and engineering resources, into a cohesive and collaborative workspace. This intentional design aims to foster enhanced communication and efficiency across all departments, facilitating quicker product development cycles and greater responsiveness to customer needs. With industries increasingly demanding high-performance bearing solutions, the Airasca center is set to meet these needs head-on.
Rickard Gustafson, SKF's President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this new facility, stating, "We're excited about the inauguration of our Airasca facility, which represents a substantial investment in profitable growth and customer expansion. This environment is optimal for manufacturing our new Super-precision bearings, which will improve our competitiveness and provide our customers with superior solutions faster and more efficiently".
Cutting-Edge Technology and Sustainability
The SKF Super-precision center is equipped with the latest technologies, including automated systems that ensure a digitally connected environment. These advancements contribute to operational excellence and sustainability, reflecting SKF’s commitment to minimizing environmental impacts while maximizing performance.
The facility will not just produce super-precision bearings, which are essential in high-speed and high-precision applications, but will also support prototyping and product innovation. Such capabilities are crucial in maintaining SKF's competitive edge in demanding industry sectors such as machine tools and precision machinery.
David Johansson, President of Industrial Region Europe, Middle East, and Africa, remarked on the facility’s broader implications: "This is more than just a new facility; it’s a bold step forward in how we deliver precision, performance, and partnership to our customers. By uniting our expertise and capabilities, we're creating a dynamic ecosystem that will shape the future of Super-precision bearing technology".
Transition of Operations
As part of the strategic move, the production of super-precision bearings has been relocated from SKF's previous facilities in Pianezza and Villar Perosa to the new Airasca site. However, the Villar Perosa plant will continue to play a pivotal role as a global center specializing in bearings and solutions specifically for the railway and aerospace sectors.
In summary, the inauguration of this new facility not only marks a significant milestone for SKF but also sets a benchmark for the industry, showcasing how companies can leverage advanced technology and collaborative environments to enhance product quality and service delivery. As SKF continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in bearing technology, the Airasca center stands as a testament to the company's dedication to excellence and customer satisfaction.
As SKF moves forward, the industry will be watching closely to see how this investment translates into innovations that could redefine the future of precision engineering.
