Servier Acquires Edgewise Therapeutics' Muscular Dystrophy Business

In an important move within the pharmaceutical industry, Servier, an international pharmaceutical group recognized for its commitment to healthcare, has announced its agreement to acquire the muscular dystrophy division of Edgewise Therapeutics Inc. This transaction is valued at up to $2.65 billion and features a significant upfront payment of $1.55 billion along with potential regulatory and commercial milestone payments totaling as much as $1.1 billion.

The acquisition is a calculated step in Servier's broader strategy to enhance its capabilities within the neurology sector, particularly aimed at addressing the significant unmet medical needs of patients suffering from rare neuromuscular disorders. One of the key assets included in this deal is sevasemten, a first-in-class investigational drug that targets Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophies. This orally administered fast skeletal myosin inhibitor has shown promise in preserving muscle function and protecting against contraction-related injuries.

Sevasemten is currently undergoing crucial clinical evaluations, including pivotal studies for Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) and phase 2 clinical trials for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). BMD is characterized by progressive muscle loss, and unfortunately, there are currently no approved treatments available for those affected. Similarly, DMD is a severe condition that leads to loss of mobility and has dire implications for patients, significantly reducing life expectancy.

As the transaction awaits regulatory clearance and customary closing conditions, it is expected to finalize in the third quarter of 2026.
