Envision Energy and Statera Collaboration for Large-Scale Energy Storage in the UK
Envision Energy and Statera Energy's Groundbreaking Partnership
In a significant move towards enhancing the UK's renewable energy capabilities, Envision Energy, a global frontrunner in green technology, has joined forces with Statera Energy to develop the Carrington Storage Project, which boasts a total capacity of 680 MW / 1360 MWh. This project is set to become one of the largest single-site battery storage installations in the United Kingdom, and its financial close marks a pivotal moment in the country’s journey towards a sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy landscape.
Located at the Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester, the Carrington Storage Project is anticipated to commence operations by late 2026. Once fully operational, the facility will be capable of supplying electricity to approximately 2.2 million homes for up to two hours. This capacity will greatly enhance grid stability, mitigate renewable energy curtailment, and support the UK's overarching goals of achieving net-zero emissions and ensuring energy security.
The collaboration includes a robust array of stakeholders, showcasing a strong institutional commitment to large-scale battery storage solutions as vital enablers in the ongoing energy transition. Among these stakeholders are Lloyds, Statkraft, NatWest, Santander, Siemens Bank, SEB, and Mizuho.
Envision Energy will deploy its AI-powered Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), purposefully designed for high levels of renewable integration, exceptional efficiency, and optimal lifecycle performance. Statera recognized Envision for its extensive expertise in energy storage and system integration, along with its innovative AI-driven approaches. The BESS utilizes a Large Energy Model to observe real-time grid situations, engages in grid-forming control, and guarantees stability even under significant renewable resource penetration.
