Discover the Isao Takahata Exhibition at Azabudai Hills
This summer, Azabudai Hills in Tokyo is transforming into a haven for anime lovers and fans of legendary director Isao Takahata. Beginning July 25, the gallery will host the exhibition titled "Isao Takahata: The Man Who Created Japanese Animation". This exhibition will continue until September 15, 2025, celebrating the life and works of one of the most influential figures in animation history.
In addition to the exhibition, a special collaboration will take place across Azabudai Hills, featuring unique visuals inspired by Takahata’s iconic works. The main visuals will include beloved characters from four of his famous films:
Grave of the Fireflies,
Pom Poko,
Heidi, Girl of the Alps, and
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. The visuals will be displayed throughout the area, creating a vibrant atmosphere for both visitors and passersby.
Special Events and Collaborations
To celebrate this remarkable exhibition, several events and special menus will be introduced:

Heidi Swing Cafe: Inspired by the classic tale of
Heidi, this themed cafe will offer limited-time menu items that reflect the essence of the story. Visitors can enjoy dishes that use ingredients like cheese and milk, reminiscent of the alpine setting.

Talk Events: The exhibition will feature engaging discussions, including a talk event hosted by acclaimed director Shunji Iwai and film researcher Seiji Kanou, where they will delve into Takahata’s distinguished career and his work on
Yanagawa Story.

Film Appreciation with Dinner: Exclusive screening events showcasing six of Takahata's films will also be held, offering attendees a chance to enjoy a film followed by a meal curated by Chef Mikuni. The films featured include
Pom Poko,
Heidi, and
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.

Photo Spots: Throughout the duration of the exhibition, various photo spots will be set up around Azabudai Hills, allowing visitors to capture precious memories with Takahata's characters.

Summer Festival: The Azabudai Hills Summer Festival coinciding with the Takahata exhibition will take place in early August, featuring themed giveaways, including masks inspired by
Heidi.
