Thermos's 2024 Sustainability Activities Report
Thermos, a global leader in thermal technology, has been spearheading significant sustainability initiatives under the theme "Thermos, Friendly to People and the Environment." The company celebrates June 5th as World Environment Day recognized by the United Nations, reaffirming its mission to reduce environmental impact while providing customers with products that enhance their lifestyles. In line with this commitment, Thermos has announced three major accomplishments for their sustainability efforts in 2024.
1. Used Stainless Steel Bottle Recycling Program
In May 2023, Thermos initiated a recycling service dedicated to collecting used stainless steel bottles. This program allows customers to return their stainless steel thermal bottles, tumblers, cups, and soup jars at specific Thermos stores. Since the program launched, a significant number of customers have participated in the collection efforts.
Achievements:
- - Total Weight Collected: Approximately 1,500 kg of used stainless steel bottles from May 25, 2023, to March 31, 2025.
- - Equivalent to: About 7,100 bottles when converted based on the Thermos JNL series (0.5L size).
- - Collection Locations: 4 Thermos Styling Stores, 17 Thermos Stores, and various event venues.
- - Materials Collected: Includes thermal structure bottles from both Thermos and other brands.
- - Recycled Products: Some parts from the recycling process were transformed into novelty items such as magnet clips distributed at events.

2. Collaboration with Alvark Tokyo as an SDGs Partner
Thermos has been actively collaborating with various partners, most notably with the professional basketball club Alvark Tokyo since 2021, under an SDGs partnership. Through the “My Bottle Promotion Project,” both organizations strive to reduce environmental impacts. In 2024, they launched a pilot project during the home games held in March 2025, where 100 reusable tumblers were made available for fans, effectively reducing the use of disposable drink containers. During this event, 88 tumblers were borrowed, achieving a 100% return rate.
Furthermore, Thermos organized basketball and SDGs-themed classrooms at two elementary schools in Shinjuku and Toshima. This educational initiative included basketball coaching sessions and seminars on Thermos's SDGs activities, alongside hosting a used stainless steel bottle recycling service at the participating schools.
Collection Results:
- - Weight Collected at Schools: 22.7 kg from December 17, 2024, to January 31, 2025, and February 6 to March 21, 2025.
3. Participation in the Tokyo Greenship Action 2024
Thermos acknowledges its responsibility to preserve the nature that nurtures the essential resource of water, contributing to biodiversity conservation efforts. To learn about preserving biodiversity, Thermos employees and their families participated in the Tokyo Greenship Action 2024 on November 30, 2024. This initiative involved a total of 26 participants working on activities in the Satoyama conservation area.
Activity Highlights:
- - Objectives: Understanding Satoyama conservation and natural observation.
- - Actions: Grass cutting, bamboo thinning, and crafts using bamboo for families.
