The Highly Anticipated Live-Action Adaptation of Erika to be Exclusively Released on FOD

The Live-Action Adaptation of 'Erika'

Fuji Television is excited to announce the exclusive online release of the live-action adaptation of the acclaimed psycho-horror comic 'Erika', created by Tetsu Koumoto, on August 1. Available on their streaming service, FOD, every Friday at 20:00, this gripping adaptation promises to captivate audiences.

Originally published in 2014, the comic version of 'Erika' rapidly gained popularity among horror enthusiasts, retaining its shocking twists and portrayal of obsessive dedication even 11 years after its debut. The original creator, Tetsu Koumoto, is currently running a monthly series titled 'Gaidou Gaiden' in 'Young King BULL', proving that his storytelling prowess continues to thrive.

The plot of 'Erika' follows a gradually revealing perspective of the titular character's twisted nature and the deterioration of Aoshima’s life, who is immersed in this unsettling world. This is not simply a school story; instead, it unravels an eerie atmosphere that grips viewers and keeps them engaged as they explore the escalating intensity of Erika's unsettling love.

Headlining the cast as Erika is Mizuki Kayashima, a talent who was recognized in the Amuse audition in 2017. Kayashima has since graced numerous commercials, including campaigns for Pocari Sweat and Zexy, and has served as an exclusive model for 'Seventeen'. Her extensive acting experiences include performances in notable works like 'Romeo and Juliet' (2021), 'OKAERI MONE' (2021), 'Kyouso no Musume' (2022), and more. Her distinctive presence and nuanced expressions resonate perfectly with Erika’s character, and audiences are eager to see her portrayal.

In light of the drama's announcement, both Kayashima and Koumoto shared their insights on this thrilling project.

Mizuki Kayashima's Comment:
"Reading the original story for the first time was a thrilling experience, and I felt goosebumps as I reached the end – a testament to its eerie quality. I believe this piece transcends traditional horror, allowing multiple interpretations based on individual perspectives. I see it as a story about a pure and sincere girl, and I’m curious to know how audiences will interpret it. Stay tuned!"

Tetsu Koumoto's Comment:
"Though this work is over 20 years old, I still feel the universal nature of 'female emotion.' Erika, the main character, is quite dear to me. She has her ups and downs and may occasionally go off-track, but her unwavering dedication is her defining trait. I hope viewers won't merely perceive her as a monster; rather, I ask everyone, including creators and actors, to understand and cherish her character in all her complexity."

Story Synopsis

The story centers around Aoshima Kazuya, a temporary teacher who hears unsettling rumors about a student named Erika, who stands out in his class. He believes that resolving her issues could lead him to permanent hiring. However, as Aoshima interacts with her, he begins to notice an abnormal distance in their relationship and strange behaviors. Erika's obsessive and abnormal attachment soon spirals out of control, leading him down a path of turmoil that not only affects his life but those around him as well. The fast-paced storytelling culminates in a breathtaking climax, leaving viewers questioning whether Aoshima will ever manage to free himself from Erika's mysterious grip.
