Collaborative Efforts for Clean Energy in Nigeria

In a significant step towards sustainable development, BLUETTI, a global leader in clean energy, has collaborated with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to launch their second initiative aimed at enhancing energy access in Nigeria. This project took place in Benue State from September 7 to 10, 2026, under the ongoing program "Lighting An African Family (LAAF)."

This partnership builds upon their previous successful collaboration in Kenya in 2025, exemplifying a commitment to empower underserved communities throughout Africa with clean energy solutions. The main goal of the LAAF program is to improve the quality of life for people in remote areas by ensuring their access to reliable and safe energy sources.

During this initiative, a two-day solar energy workshop was organized at the Rev. Fr. Orshio Adasu University in Makurdi. This workshop aimed to educate local students and community members about the fundamental concepts of solar power and its practical applications. To aid hands-on learning, BLUETTI donated 50 solar lighting kits along with energy storage systems (PB200) for participants.

As a part of this outreach, the initiative also expanded to Yelwata in the Guma Local Government Area, where reliable electric power is scarce. BLUETTI provided an additional 180 solar kits to female-led households and elderly residents, directly impacting over 1,000 local inhabitants. By improving access to dependable electricity, families can significantly enhance their living conditions, allowing them to focus on their educational pursuits, facilitate better communication, and foster community development.

James Ray, a spokesperson for BLUETTI, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with UN-Habitat again. “It is an honor to partner with UN-Habitat once more. This initiative reflects our shared goal of expanding access to clean energy across more communities in Africa,” he stated. The LAAF program has successfully assisted over 60,000 individuals across the continent thus far, and both organizations intend to continue strengthening their alliance to extend clean energy solutions to additional African nations.

The collaboration has potential far beyond immediate community improvements. It is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 337.5 tons over five years, contributing to the resilience of communities and promoting sustainable development for all.
