PACU Foundation Celebrates Successful Conclusion with Final Flying Colors Charity 5K

The PACU Foundation recently concluded its impactful journey with the Fourth and Final Flying Colors Charity 5K and Fun Run, held on June 13, 2026, at Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, North Carolina. This vibrant event was not just a celebration of community; it also served a noble purpose, generating vital funds to support local families facing financial hardships.

As participants splashed through clouds of colorful powder and embraced the joyous atmosphere, the spirit of unity was palpable. In total, 186 eager runners took part in the race, surpassing the foundation’s goal by raising over $30,000. Among the participants was Jared Bahena, who clinched the title of overall winner with a remarkable time of 23 minutes and 06 seconds.

Megan Brooks, the PACU Foundation's fundraising chair, expressed her appreciation for the community’s involvement in making this event a memorable farewell. “Every year, I am in awe of how much joy and goodwill this event brings,” she noted. “While the morning was filled with exercise and excitement, the shared purpose of helping those in need drove every heart racing through the course.”

The Flying Colors Charity Run uniquely combines a fun, family-friendly atmosphere with a mission to aid local charities that offer emergency financial aid, financial education, and essential services to families across the Triad and Charlotte regions. Since its inception in 2020, the PACU Foundation has dedicated itself to alleviating financial struggles within the community, raising an astounding $142,000 for local charities by the end of 2025.

A significant contributor to this year’s financial success was a generous $10,000 grant from Elan Credit Card, solidifying their commitment to strengthening community ties. The presentation of this check occurred at the event, symbolizing a fruitful collaborative effort focused on bettering the lives of those in need. Jean Golden-Rumer, President of the PACU Foundation, emphasized the importance of such partnerships, stating, “This recognition affirms the purpose of our Foundation and the value of meaningful collaborations. We are grateful for Elan's commitment to helping credit unions turn values into action for the communities we serve.”

As the PACU Foundation embarks on its winding down phase due to an impending merger with Truliant Federal Credit Union, this final gifting year is a bittersweet moment reflecting its enduring impact. According to Jean Golden-Rumer, the foundation’s journey has been enriched by the incredible dedication of donors, volunteers, and the community at large. “The altruism of donors and volunteers demonstrates that belonging is more than words,” she said. “Whatever the future holds, the impact will continue to spread, and that’s something truly worth preserving.”

In conclusion, the Flying Colors Charity 5K not only highlights the fun and fitness of a running event but also serves as a testament to the power of community and compassion. The PACU Foundation leaves behind a legacy of generosity, commitment, and support for those in need—a truly remarkable achievement that will echo throughout the communities of the Piedmont Triad and beyond. “I am truly honored to have been part of the PACU Foundation's journey, treasuring the memories and relationships formed with donors, volunteers, and local charities,” Golden-Rumer expressed. Although this marks the end of the Foundation's operations, its positive impact on the lives it touched will be remembered and cherished for years to come.
