Nfinite Secures Funding to Develop Revolutionary Paper Packaging Solutions for a Sustainable Future

Nfinite Secures Funding for Paper Packaging Innovation

Nfinite, an innovative materials company based in Waterloo, Canada, has recently received a major financial boost to advance its groundbreaking work in sustainable packaging solutions. The funding, amounting to approximately $3.87 million CAD, comes from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP). This investment is a game changer for Nfinite as it seeks to bring its novel open-air roll-to-roll coating process, known as atmospheric pressure spatial atomic layer deposition (AP-SALD), from the laboratory stage to commercial viability.

Transforming the Flexible Packaging Market

The flexible packaging industry, valued at around $270 billion, is poised for transformation through Nfinite's innovative paper-based alternatives that promise the same durability and barrier performance as traditional plastics. Current trends indicate a growing demand for sustainable options in consumer goods, as major brands shift towards eco-friendly solutions while ensuring product longevity.

Nfinite's CEO, Miguel Galvez, articulated the potential for their technology: "Using our proprietary AP-SALD system, we have demonstrated that our paper solutions can match the shelf life performance of metallized plastics, which could fundamentally change the packaging landscape." This mission is further intensified by collaborations with industry giants such as Amcor, PepsiCo, and Unilever.

A Collaborative Effort Towards Sustainability

Nfinite's partnerships are pivotal for achieving its ambitious goals. Amcor, recognized as a leader in packaging solutions, is enthusiastic about the potential of Nfinite’s technology. Michael Hartman, a senior fellow at Amcor, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "The AP-SALD technology developed by Nfinite has shown promising results, and we aim to create more circular packaging solutions together." This partnership aligns perfectly with Unilever's commitment to eliminating hard-to-recycle flexible plastics.
