The Lumber Manufactory Expands With New Sawmill in New Albany

The Lumber Manufactory, a key player in the sawmill industry, has officially opened a new sawmill operation in New Albany, Mississippi. This landmark project represents a significant corporate investment of over $15 million and is expected to create more than 50 job opportunities for the local community.

The decision to establish the sawmill in New Albany is strategically anchored in Mississippi's vast pine sawtimber resources. The region's abundance of high-quality timber not only influenced The Lumber Manufactory's location choice but also promises new prospects for local private landowners looking to sell their timber.

The Mississippi Development Authority is actively supporting the project through its Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, which is aimed at fostering economic development in the state. Additional support has come from AccelerateMS and Union County, demonstrating a strong partnership among local and state entities in promoting job growth and economic prosperity.

Founded in 2023 by a team of seasoned executives with experience in high-tech sectors, The Lumber Manufactory aims to bridge the gap between America’s timber surplus and lumber manufacturing deficit. The new facility in New Albany is now fully operational and signifies a substantial commitment to local industry and job creation.

In remarks about the project, Governor Tate Reeves emphasized the importance of forestry to Mississippi’s economy. He stated, “Forestry is one of our state’s leading industries, and TLM is capitalizing on one of our greatest natural assets – our abundant timber resources.” He further noted the mill’s role in providing landowners with a market for their timber while simultaneously generating over 50 jobs. This initiative not only aids local economies but also strengthens the tax base and creates opportunities for future generations.

Bill Cork, Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority, highlighted how TLM's new sawmill is contributing to the state’s growth momentum. Cork stated, “Companies choose Mississippi because they can build faster and go farther thanks to our exceptional resources, skilled workforce, and strong public partnerships.”
The sentiments were echoed by TLM's Co-Founder and CEO, Michael Grasso, who praised the collaboration with state and local authorities in bringing their vision to fruition. Grasso noted, “America has a timber surplus and a lumber manufacturing deficit, and our new state-of-the-art mill here creates a tremendous opportunity to build more sawn wood products at home.”

Additionally, C.J. Bright, the President of the Union County Board of Supervisors, expressed pride in the company’s investment, highlighting the importance of providing good-paying job options for local residents. Mayor Jeff Olson of New Albany also recognized the community’s supportive infrastructure for diverse manufacturing operations and expressed optimism for the future growth of TLM in the region.
