Meet the Author

Kan Sakurai, born in Nagano Prefecture in 1954, is a distinguished photojournalist whose career spans decades. After graduating from Nihon University’s College of Art, he worked for a publisher’s photography department for 15 years and then became an independent photojournalist in 1990. With more than 250 trips to 95 countries, Sakurai has authored 115 books, including the popular 'Comprehensive Guide to Japan’s Scenic Railway' series. He is also a member of the Japan Photographers Association and the Japan Travel Writers Association, and serves as a visiting professor at Tokyo Traffic Short-Term College.
