The IBC Accelerator Incubator 2026: Smart Stories initiative brings together a coalition of over a dozen prominent broadcasters and technology firms. Noteworthy participants include industry giants such as the BBC, Associated Press, Al Jazeera, and NBCUniversal. The primary goal is to develop a unified SOM, which provides a single version of a story for all tools and platforms involved in content creation and distribution. This standardization is expected to save time and minimize errors typically caused by manual data entry and inconsistent metadata across vendors.
As content consumption continues to grow exponentially, broadcasters are faced with an increasing need for efficient ways to discover and distribute stories. One of the practical applications of this new system includes connecting acquisition units directly to the story’s context. For instance, when breaking news occurs, LiveU technology can recommend which field unit should be dispatched. This unit would then relay contextual information back to the central system. As a result, tasks such as transcription and content generation can occur automatically, with minimal human intervention required for final validation.
