MilVet Angels Welcomes William Crowell to Advisory Board
MilVet Angels, a renowned network connecting military veteran families and past public service leaders, is thrilled to announce that William "Bill" Crowell, the former Deputy Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), has joined its Advisory Board. This strategic addition is expected to significantly bolster MilVet Angels' mission to empower the next generation of tech companies driven by innovation and democratic values.
William Crowell brings a wealth of experience in both national security and the tech sector. From 1994 to 1997, Crowell served as the Deputy Director of the NSA; a role that positions him as one of the highest-ranking civilians in the agency's history. He played a crucial part in overseeing operations and policy, ensuring the NSA's readiness for contemporary security challenges.
Before taking on the role of Deputy Director, he served as Chief of Staff, just prior to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, where he formulated strategies critical to the agency's operations. Crowell’s tenure at the NSA also encompassed leading global signals intelligence missions as Deputy Director for Operations prior to his promotion.
Currently, Crowell is an Operating Partner at Brave Capital, a venture capital firm, following a successful stint as a Partner at Alsop Louie Partners. His leadership abilities shine through as he previously served as CEO of Cylink Corporation, a publicly traded entity recognized for its e-business security solutions. Moreover, he has played pivotal roles on various boards of cybersecurity firms achieving successful exits, which speaks volumes about his capabilities in fostering tech innovation.
As Crowell remarked, "I look forward to supporting MilVet Angels in its mission to engage outstanding civil servants and military veterans in the innovation economy. Together, we can strengthen our nation by empowering companies focused on advancing democratic values worldwide."
Ernestine Fu Mak, Co-founder of MilVet Angels, highlighted Crowell’s arrival as an infusion of exemplary experience and expertise. She underscored his vast knowledge in emerging technologies, cybersecurity, and national security, which will be instrumental in guiding innovative firms through the pressing challenges that society faces today.
Crowell's illustrious career is adorned with numerous accolades including the National Security Medal, National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, and the Distinguished Executive Presidential Rank Award, among others. He has also held influential positions within various committees and advisory boards, demonstrating his commitment to improving national security and the evolving landscape of technology.
By joining the Advisory Board alongside distinguished personalities like Sue Gordon and Hondo Geurts, Crowell's presence is set to further enhance their collective experience and wisdom. Gordon’s previous role as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence and Geurts’ expertise in naval research and development, add significant depth to the board's guidance.
MilVet Angels stands as a beacon of support for companies at the forefront of technological innovation with a mission that resonates within the intersections of technology and global impact. With Crowell's appointment, the organization looks forward to advancing its objectives effectively and influencing positive change in both the tech sector and society at large.
