Joinus Revamps Signage and Mobile UI for Real-Time Congestion Management

Joinus Revamps Signage and Mobile UI

On April 20, 2026, the commercial facility Joinus, managed by Sotetsu Building Management, will unveil a comprehensive redesign of its signage and mobile user interface (UI). This redevelopment has been spearheaded by Vacan Inc., a Tokyo-based company focused on utilizing AI technology to visualize congestion and improve customer experiences.

The Motivation Behind the Update

In bustling commercial spaces like Joinus, which is directly connected to a train station, visitor flow peaks during lunch hours and weekends. This often results in significant congestion at cafés and restrooms. To mitigate these issues and enhance customer satisfaction, Vacan has leveraged its expertise in congestion data detection, analysis, and distribution to update the information provided via digital signage and mobile UI.

The new features will not only convey the ongoing congestion levels at dines spots but also forecast expected congestion patterns, aiding visitors in selecting less crowded venues. This initiative aims to distribute foot traffic more evenly throughout the complex, ultimately improving customer satisfaction.

New Features of the Revamped System

The upgrade includes the implementation of the congestion information distribution platform, VACAN. At Joinus, nine digital signage stations and the mobile site UI, located along major pathways on floors B1, 1, and 2, have been revamped to distribute key information, including:

  • - Café Congestion Forecasts: Real-time updates on the congestion status at 14 cafés, coupled with detailed 15-minute interval forecasts over the subsequent two hours. This feature helps alleviate customer anxiety about wait times by clearly indicating when the areas are likely to be less crowded.
  • - Restroom Congestion Status: The occupancy levels of restrooms on each floor, including real-time updates on the number of available stalls, will also be displayed, thereby enhancing convenience for visitors.

Meeting the needs of customers utilizing the dining facilities, efficient restroom access is integral to an improved overall experience. By integrating the congestion information of both dining areas and restrooms, the updated system enhances visitors' experiences within Joinus, contributing to both increased convenience and satisfaction.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Vacan plans to conduct surveys and gather feedback directly from customers through web questionnaires accessible via their smartphones. The findings will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of this initiative, optimizing UI design and functional features to provide an even better service.
