Carbon Unveils Innovative Automation Suite and New Solutions at IDS 2025 in Cologne

Carbon's Innovations at IDS 2025

Carbon, a prominent figure in the realm of 3D printing for digital dentistry, is set to unveil its most recent advancements during the IDS 2025 event in Cologne, Germany. The showcase will highlight innovative solutions that promise to enhance workflow efficiency and expand opportunities for dental laboratories.

Expanded Automation Suite

The centerpiece of Carbon's presentation will be its expanded suite of automation operations (AO), which introduces a range of enhancements aimed at improving laboratory productivity. Among the featured innovations is the Automatic Print Preparation (APP), which streamlines essential pre-printing tasks such as orientation, supports, and labeling. This breakthrough empowers labs to reduce manual intervention significantly while optimizing their existing workflows.

In addition, participants can look forward to the Parts Retrieval Basket, a new accessory designed for use with the OA Backpack. This component allows laboratories to retrieve printed pieces according to schedule without disrupting ongoing print jobs. This means that during regular working hours, labs can access completed prints without wasting time waiting for the printing process to finish.

Since its launch last year, the OA Backpack has already processed over 18,000 prints, marking a transformative impact on laboratory operations and efficiency.

Introduction of the Polishing Cassette

Carbon is also expanding the reach of its Polishing Cassette. Tailored for dental prosthetics and clear aligners, this improvement is now compatible with M3 and M3 Max printers and utilizes advanced light diffusion technology. This tech polishes pieces during the printing process, ensuring smoother, clearer prints while minimizing manual post-processing. With validation for high-quality materials such as Dentsply's Lucitone Digital Print™ and Keystone's Keysplint Soft™ Clear, the polishing cassette is set to revolutionize workflows in dental labs by preserving intricate design details.

Launch of Lucentra

In a bid to further enhance orthodontic practices, Carbon will introduce Lucentra, a cutting-edge solution aimed at aiding orthodontists in producing superior thermoformed aligners. This innovative product suite includes finely tuned software, a new cassette for the Carbon L1 printer, and a next-generation material, UMA 20. Lucentra is designed specifically to reduce visible layering in clear aligners, generating smoother printed models that improve transparency from the outset while offering greater longevity than previous materials.

“We are committed to driving innovation in dental laboratories by truly understanding their daily challenges,” said Terri Capriolo, Senior Vice President of Dental Health at Carbon. “Our automation suite empowers labs to direct their time and expertise toward higher-value tasks, ultimately leading to enhanced patient care.”

Carbon believes these solutions are transforming operations in North America, and it’s eager to replicate this success in Europe with its presence at IDS 2025. By assisting more laboratories in reaching new heights of productivity and efficiency, Carbon is set to make a lasting imprint on the industry.
