ASTM International Expands Access to Its Innovative Compass Platform

In response to increasing customer demand for sophisticated digital formats and workflows, ASTM International has made the significant decision to expand its direct sales efforts while discontinuing its long-standing partnership with Accuris (formerly IHS). This change marks a pivotal shift aimed at providing users with direct access to their essential standards through the upgraded ASTM Compass® platform.

According to Andy Kireta, President of ASTM, "We have been listening to the voice of our customers and users. We’re excited to collaborate more directly to innovate the delivery of the information and data they require both today and into the future." Kireta also expressed gratitude towards Accuris for their partnership over the years, wishing them success as their business evolves.

Recently, ASTM completed a comprehensive, multi-year review of its existing IT infrastructure, leading to significant enhancements in its flagship product, ASTM Compass®. The upgraded platform positions ASTM uniquely to provide users of standards with expanded solutions, ensuring they can leverage their standards more effectively.

Enhanced Features of ASTM Compass

The enhancements implemented include tools specifically designed to facilitate user interaction with standards and technical content seamlessly into their daily workflows. Key advantages available to ASTM Compass subscribers include:

  • - HTML and PDF Format Options: Users can access content in various formats, allowing for maximum flexibility.
  • - Additional Content Access: Subscribers can now enjoy added content from AASHTO, AATCC, API, AWS, AWWA, CGA, IES, MOD, UOP, and others.
  • - Color-Coded Highlighting (ASTM Redlines): This feature enables users to instantly identify changes in standards, thereby saving valuable time and resources.
  • - New Collaboration Tool: This tool facilitates the sharing of selected content among users, enhancing technical communication between departments and divisions. Users can leverage Compass Points to add requirements, use cases, or other organizational protocols directly to their standards. These unique URLs serve as permanent, shareable markers, keeping users connected to vital data even as standards evolve.
  • - Favorites Functionality: Users can pin frequently accessed standards to the Compass dashboard for quick reference.
  • - Tracking Function: Users can be notified when new versions of standards are published.
  • - Expert Videos: Over 300 ASTM-curated videos designed by industry experts are available to assist in onboarding new staff and training existing teams effectively.
  • - Translated Standards: Certain selected standards are also available in translated versions.

"As the owner of the content, ASTM is in a unique position to tailor personalized solutions for customers with greater efficiency," Kireta added. “From access to HTML versions of the standards and responsible AI usage guidance to new tools that integrate with various digital platforms and workflows, ASTM offers clients a reliable, credible, and responsive source for their data needs in this fast-evolving digital age. More customers will now have the opportunity to work directly with ASTM and take pride in knowing their investment in Compass contributes to the future development of standards."
