Launching the 2026 Quantum Startup Support Program

On June 18, 2026, Plug and Play Japan, under the leadership of Vincent Philip, in collaboration with Q-STAR, has commenced recruiting companies for its accelerator program aimed at quantum technology startups in Japan. This initiative aligns with the Japanese government's efforts under the Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) aimed at advancing the application of quantum technology in addressing social issues.

Background and Achievements of the Previous Program

Quantum technology possesses the potential to revolutionize various industries, such as drug discovery, material development, communication security, and sensing, by overcoming traditional computational limits. However, the implementation of this cutting-edge technology is still in its early stages.

Recognizing this, Q-STAR and Plug and Play launched the inaugural Quantum Startup Support Program in 2025. In the first phase, five promising startups focusing on areas such as quantum computing, materials based on quantum mechanics, and quantum sensors were chosen after a rigorous selection process. Throughout the three-month support period, these startups made significant advancements, including creating collaborative opportunities with large enterprises and investors.

Program Support Details

The upcoming phase of the Quantum Startup Support Program will provide an intensive three-month support system to startups looking to leverage quantum technology for business development. The dedicated staff from both Q-STAR and Plug and Play will deliver hands-on, practical assistance tailored to each company's unique challenges. The primary components of the support offered include:

- Business Partner Matching: Utilizing Q-STAR’s member companies and Plug and Play’s global network to facilitate connections.
- Funding and PR Support: Introduction to prominent domestic and international investors (VC/CVC), along with assistance in gaining media exposure and improving public relations efforts.
- Tailored Hands-On Support: Individualized practical assistance regarding business strategies, recruitment, and compliance with intellectual property and regulations.

In this second phase, in addition to supporting startups, technology explanation sessions for potential large corporate partners will be conducted, further strengthening the quantum ecosystem. We encourage startups aiming to conquer the realm of quantum technology to apply.

Target Audience

The program welcomes legally registered startups focusing on business development based on quantum technology, regardless of their business stage. A maximum of five companies will be selected for participation.
