Fujikura Group's Annual Product Sale: A Commitment to Social Responsibility
On June 24 and 25, Fujikura Corporation, under the leadership of CEO Naoki Okada, conducted a noteworthy event at its Kiba headquarters—the "Fujikura Gakuen Product Sale." This biannual sale, held every June and December, aims to support the social contribution activities of the Fujikura Group.
Founded in 1919 by Harukichi Nakauchi, brother of the founder Zenpachi Fujikura, the Fujikura Gakuen facility was established to support individuals with intellectual disabilities. This initiative has become the cornerstone of Fujikura Group's social responsibility efforts. The "Oshima Fujikura Gakuen" in Tokyo's Oshima Town offers vocational training through its living support facility "Fujicafe," striving to promote economic independence among its residents. The regular sales events featuring products made by the residents of Fujicafe have played a crucial role in supporting their ongoing economic self-sufficiency.
During this year's sale, various products made with local specialties were available, including a Yomogi (Japanese mugwort) pound cake and a green chili pound cake, as well as a selection of six different cookies. Eight young employees collaborated to manage the sales, attracting a bustling crowd of employees eager to support the cause. Remarkably, all products sold out within approximately 20 minutes on both days. Additionally, a fundraising activity for the Gakuen received enthusiastic support from many employees.
Feedback from participating employees highlighted the positive impact of such initiatives. Many expressed their satisfaction in contributing to social welfare, stating, "I am glad to have participated in social contribution activities," and "I hope these initiatives continue." Employees who purchased products also shared their sentiments, noting, "I felt happy knowing my purchase contributed to supporting Fujikura Gakuen."
Looking ahead, Fujikura Group reaffirms its commitment to supporting Fujikura Gakuen as the foundation of its social contribution activities. The group plans to continue hosting fundraising events, product sales, and volunteer opportunities to support this valuable institution. Through these efforts, Fujikura Group hopes to make a lasting difference in the lives of those it serves while engaging its employees in meaningful community initiatives and fostering a culture of philanthropy within the organization.
