Exploring the Joy of Hobbies: 9th Seminar of the Super Middle Senior Consortium
The Super Middle Senior Consortium, launched on June 6, 2025, aims to foster co-creation beyond corporate barriers. The consortium will hold its 9th seminar on September 30, 2026. This gathering looks to explore vital ideas surrounding hobbies and engagement in the lives of middle-aged and senior individuals.
The event will feature Yusuke Ito, the President of GMO Shuminavi, who will discuss the theme, "The Arrival of AI! The 'Ikigai Lifetime' of Middle Seniors Begins with Passion." Ito's platform connects over 21,000 hobby classes nationwide with approximately 290 different genres of instructors, creating a vibrant ecosystem focused on lifelong learning.
Purpose of the Seminar
GMO Shuminavi is committed to creating a world where 'passion' flourishes. Their belief is that hobbies serve as intersections of learning and playful experiences. It’s through indulging in these hobbies that individuals can cultivate their 'Douraku,' or life’s passion, which significantly contributes to their sense of purpose or 'ikigai.' This seminar aims to delve deeper into how middle seniors can prolong their inspiring lifetime—the 'Ikigai Lifetime'—a new concept that stands alongside average and healthy lifespans.
Ito emphasizes the significance of devoting time to what one loves and how this can lead to a fulfilling second phase of life. The seminar will provide insights based on real encounters with individuals in their 50s and 60s, who have found new hobbies and friendships and eventually transitioned to teaching.
What to Expect
During the seminar, attendees will engage in discussions about how to enhance the ikigai lifetime of middle seniors. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and identify collaborative projects that could emerge from this gathering. Ito's comments underscore the importance of this discussion in the context of an increasingly AI-driven world, where human connection and passion remain essential.
He states, "While AI can provide answers, it cannot substitute for the human ability to be passionate. Hence, middle seniors can inspire future generations through their cherished experiences and expertise."
