Takako Sugimura Appointed as Outside Director

L-Line Inc., headquarter in Shinagawa, Tokyo, announced that Takako Sugimura has been appointed as an outside director to the company board, effective March 31, 2026. Sugimura brings a wealth of experience, having led the turnaround at Japan Business Lab, where she successfully made the organization profitable in a short time. As a well-being consultant, she has developed unique theories to tap into each individual’s potential and has supported numerous talent development initiatives.

Background of the Appointment

Since its founding in 2008, L-Line has adhered to a management philosophy rooted in "on-site principles" and "innovative strategies" to tackle the structural challenges in the construction industry, primarily focusing on increasing productivity and profitability. Since 2019, the company has actively pursued mergers and acquisitions and started offering a comprehensive construction service for various structural tasks, marking a significant expansion in service range.

With the growth of group companies, fostering a shared mindset and developing leaders have become top priorities. Under Sugimura’s guidance, the company aims to leverage her extensive knowledge in leadership development, focusing not only on traditional training and human resources systems but also on transforming the awareness of leaders, facilitating a ripple effect throughout the organization.

The concept of well-being, which refers to satisfaction and fulfillment in life, is increasingly becoming a critical indicator in the modern world, as emphasized by Sustainable Development Goal 3. It has garnered attention as an important management metric for businesses aiming for talent retention, improved productivity, and sustainable organizational growth.

The L-Line Group aims to enhance cohesion among its diverse portfolio of companies acquired through M&A, grounding its efforts in the well-being paradigm. This approach will optimally leverage value in future post-merger integration processes (PMI).

Takako Sugimura’s Background

Sugimura has had a dynamic career, beginning during her time at Aoyama Gakuin University, serving as a weather anchor and sports reporter for TV Asahi. After graduating, she joined Japan Airlines as a cabin attendant in 1997. In 1998, she married Taro Sugimura, founder of Japan Business Lab and creator of career design school “Gakukan” and language coaching school “Presence”. After moving to the United States for her husband's studies in 2000, she returned to Japan to work as a news anchor for BS Asahi and later joined Daiwa Institute of Research in 2007, engaging in various tasks including market research, planning, recruitment, and public relations. In 2014, she took the reins as the representative director of Japan Business Lab, spearheading the organization's turnaround and achieving profitability in a short span. In 2017, she established the “Work-Life Design” school, now known as Well-being Academia, aiming to foster individual growth and happiness.

Sugimura's Vision

Throughout her career as a well-being consultant, she has focused on the theme of helping individuals shine while living and working happily. She acknowledges that by extracting the inherent strengths of employees, organizations can significantly enhance overall competitiveness and growth. Sugimura aims to support L-Line in cultivating an environment where every employee feels proud and inspired through their work, utilizing the well-being perspective to achieve this. Her contributions are expected to play a role in enhancing L-Line's talent retention, corporate value, and addressing societal issues such as the labor shortage while promoting sustainable growth in the construction industry.
