BOSOWA Group and BIOTECHWORKS-H2 Launch Waste-to-Energy Project in South Sulawesi

Launch of Waste-to-Energy Project in South Sulawesi

The collaboration between PT Kilau Energi Abadi Hijau (KEAH), a part of the BOSOWA Group, and BIOTECHWORKS-H2 (BTW-H2) has officially commenced, marking a significant step forward in sustainable development through a commercial-scale Waste-to-Energy (WtE) project in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. As of recent updates, the project's feasibility study has entered the execution phase, setting a robust foundation for future endeavors.

Project Overview

Developed in two phases, the initiative will establish a large-scale facility capable of processing 1,000 tons of waste per day and a medium-scale site to handle 150 tons of waste per day. The project has already met significant milestones, including:
  • - Identification of potential construction sites through collaborations with local municipalities,
  • - Completion of on-site assessments,
  • - Initiation of waste composition studies,
  • - Confirmation of the FS (Feasibility Study) and FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) schedules.

The MOU signing in January 2026 served as a pivotal moment for the project, facilitating swift progress thanks to the combined expertise of BTW-H2 and KEAH.

Waste-to-Energy Market in Indonesia

In accordance with Indonesia's Presidential Decree No. 109 of 2025, the nation is accelerating initiatives to promote waste energy conversion as part of its national policy measures. This decree emphasizes the importance of large-scale WtE projects, with a keen focus on facilities capable of processing over 1,000 tons per day. The large-scale component of our project conforms to this benchmark, paving the way for a future where waste is transformed into energy efficiently.

Technological Edge of BIOTECHWORKS-H2

One of the primary challenges in the WtE sector is the heterogeneity of waste—variances in moisture content, composition, and caloric value can significantly impede the conversion process. However, BTW-H2 has developed proprietary pre-treatment technologies to pelletize and homogenize waste materials, converting them into a stable fuel source. This is further enhanced by their cutting-edge gasification technology, which allows the conversion of waste into various forms of energy such as electricity, gas, and hydrogen.

Moreover, the introduction of the digital traceability system, known as "REBORN," offers end-to-end visibility of the waste management process, from collection to final energy utilization. This innovation ensures transparency and enables municipalities and investors to quantify the project's environmental impacts effectively.

Leadership Insights

Akihide Nishikawa, CEO of BIOTECHWORKS-H2

"Signing the MOU is significantly different from starting on solid ground. Right now, we are on-site in South Sulawesi, assessing waste composition and refining plant design parameters. Our partnership with the BOSOWA Group, deeply rooted in the region, has enabled us to move forward at this pace. We aspire to establish essential energy infrastructure in collaboration with academic and research institutions to truly benefit this region."

Reno Junizwan, Director of PT Kilau Energi Abadi Hijau

"Our collaboration with BTW-H2 has entered the implementation phase of the feasibility study just three months after signing the MOU. This speed has been made possible due to the strong local foundation of the BOSOWA Group combined with the technological prowess of BTW-H2. We are committed to addressing the waste challenges in South Sulawesi and transforming this region into a pioneering model for renewable energy."

Future Developments

Looking ahead, the plan involves transitioning to formal contract agreements and starting the construction of the plant based on the outcomes of the feasibility study. The strategy encompasses the simultaneous deployment of a large-scale urban model processing 1,000 tons of waste per day alongside a community-focused model processing 150 tons per day. This dual approach aims to develop a scalable WtE model that can be replicated across Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region.

About BIOTECHWORKS-H2

Operating under the mission of "from waste to hydrogen, and from hydrogen to renewable energy," BIOTECHWORKS-H2 is dedicated to realizing a transparent circular economy through their groundbreaking "Zero Waste Project." Their proprietary pre-treatment optimization techniques, combined with IoT platforms, allow for the gasification of unrecycled organic waste, yielding high-purity hydrogen, which is then utilized as a renewable energy source. The digital traceability system "REBORN" further enhances transparency throughout the waste treatment and energy utilization processes, facilitating CSR reporting and Scope 3 compliance.
