At the recently concluded Intersolar Europe 2026, Huawei made waves by introducing its innovative energy storage platform, LUTERRA®, under the theme "Making the Most of Every Ray." This launch signals a significant leap in the company’s FusionSolar strategy, which aims to harness solar energy more effectively while driving future advancements in renewable resource management.
Evolution from LUNA to LUTERRA
Huawei has officially rebranded its energy storage solutions from the former LUNA system to the newly named LUTERRA. This next-generation platform was designed with cutting-edge technology that promises to empower smart grid capabilities. LUTERRA operates at an AC voltage of 1000 V and boasts industry-leading configuration capabilities of 12.5 MW/50 MWh.
Steven Zhou, the President of Huawei's Smart PV ESS Product Line, emphasized the transformative potential of this launch in his keynote address. He stated, "Future products in photovoltaics and energy storage must evolve into grid-supporting assets. Future-proof flexibility, grid-forming capability, and artificial intelligence will be crucial in this transition." LUTERRA is touted to set new benchmarks in the industry, highlighted by five key technological advancements:
1. Smart String Architecture: The implementation of 1000 Vac transformerless architecture enhances battery consistency, leading to reliable performance and efficiency gains.
2. Modular SiC Design: Cutting-edge 1000 Vac SiC modules significantly optimize conversion efficiency, ensuring better energy utilization.
3. Simplified Busbar Configuration: This new architecture facilitates easier installation, capacity expansion, and cable connections, thereby reducing costs and resource utilization during deployment.
4. Innovative Cooling System: The new distributed cooling technology doubles the heat dissipation area while minimizing fan speed and noise levels by nearly 40%.
5. Advanced Network Formation: LUTERRA allows synchronous network formation for millions of devices and auto-adaptation to network capacity fluctuations, ensuring stability and reliability.
Zheng Steve, President of the Smart ESS Division, also noted that LUTERRA is positioned to provide optimal investment returns, improved profitability, and unparalleled security to its users. Notably, the technology is designed to operate with an extremely low risk threshold of less than 1 in 1 million, reassuring companies of its reliability.

In addition to commercial applications, Huawei also revealed its new residential energy storage product, LUTERRA S2, which is anticipated to enhance energy efficiency for households. Sun Power, the head of Huawei's Home Solar and Energy Storage Division, reiterated the company’s commitment to providing smart home energy solutions that cater to over 4.3 million families globally.
