ABB's Terra AC Wallbox Adopted by Miraiz Enechange
In an exciting development for the electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape in Japan, ABB's Terra AC Wallbox has been selected as the first standard charger for Miraiz Enechange's EV charging services. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the implementation of a nationwide EV charging infrastructure, offering enhanced convenience for users of electric vehicles.
Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
Miraiz Enechange, an initiative aimed at contributing to a decarbonized society, began offering EV charging services in November 2021. The service, known as "EV Charging Enechange," is designed to provide EV users with a reliable and convenient charging environment. By installing standard chargers in various locations, including commercial facilities, accommodations, offices, and residential complexes, Miraiz aims to ease the transition to electric mobility.
The adoption of the Terra AC Wallbox represents a pivotal step in establishing a nationwide destination charging network. The chargers will be installed at a variety of locations including hotels, commercial complexes, and golf courses, starting from various regions across the country.
ABB does not only supply the Terra AC Wallbox but also developing software to ensure compatibility with Miraiz's unique charging management system. This system adheres to international standards, specifically the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), facilitating seamless integration with different charging networks.
Features of the Terra AC Wallbox
The Terra AC Wallbox is a highly efficient AC regular charger, ideal for home, office, and commercial use. With a charging output of 6kW, it offers faster charging speeds compared to conventional outlet models. The charger includes safety features such as overcurrent and overvoltage protections and has been evaluated and tested according to the highest safety standards by third-party certification bodies.
Since its launch in Japan in 2022, more than 1,200 units have been sold primarily through automobile dealers. In 2024, it is expected to comply with the certification standards set forth by the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) and become eligible for subsidies from the Next Generation Automobile Promotion Center (NeV).
